Title: Accounting Systems Specialist Supervisor: Director of Finance Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a strong knowledge in GAAP • At least 2 years of successful accounting software super-user experience, including data export/import, report writing, and database management activities • Advanced user in Microsoft Excel • Successful experience automating accounting functions in organizations • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to help district patrons and employees navigate the financial systems of the District • Governmental accounting experience or education is preferred, but not required • Candidate should be an excellent multi-tasker with exceptional communication and time management skills.
Job Goal: To assist the Director of Finance in all accounting functions of the School District.
Performance Essential Responsibilities: • Develop a deep understanding of finance department processes and database to recommend/implement automation • Assist Director of Finance in preparation of funding projections and comparisons based on attendance and staffing data • Provide accounting support for all staff, with a focus on Assistant Treasurers and department office managers • Assist in the month-end close, including bank reconciliations, liability reconciliations, reviewing/preparing adjusting journal entries • Assist in annual financial audit and other regulatory audits • Provide regular trainings for various staff groups to help them successfully navigate the financial systems of the district • Perform internal audit procedures for all district funds, including student body funds • Complete/Assistant the appropriate departments to complete the state reporting for attendance and staffing, regularly auditing data and training data entry staff to ensure accuracy. • Responsible to submit the ISEE reports as required by the State Department of Education and/or State Board of Education. • Responsible for the District calendar calculating student instructional hours: involves entry into student program and completing the state report. • Assist in oversight of grants, providing support for grant recipients on reporting, spending per guidelines, and budgeting Create reports in the financial system to promote transparency and access to information needed for decision-making • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that are legal, moral and ethical as the Supervisor may assign.
Essential Physical Requirements (with or without a reasonable accommodation): • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits the employee to understand verbal instructions and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person; • Sufficient visual acuity which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, prepare and review documents and process them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials; • Sufficient manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a personal computer and standard office equipment; • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance which permits the employee to work in an office environment, occasion lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs. • Jobs in this class require talking and hearing to relay and monitor procedures and performing repetitive motions in typing, filing and paperwork; • Position requires mobility to travel around the district occasionally.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position is exempt. Assignment is a 12 month position working full time.
