REPORTS TO: Mechanical Maintenance/Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficiently maintained place in which to learn, play, and develop.
Establish district guidelines for desired objectives and goals
Spring: a. Will spray school grounds and determine a schedule to coordinate with school work and activities. b. Will fertilize school grass and flower areas to coordinate with school schedule and activities. c. Hand spray fence lines and other appropriate areas to control weeds. d. Start lawn mowing when the grass is ready. e. Coordinate the planting of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees according to district landscape plan maintained in District Office. f. Maintain sprinkler system. Check and turn water valves on to the sprinkler systems around the high school sprinkler system, football field sprinkler system and football tower. Establish irrigation schedules for all school grounds. g. Burn and clean ditches for delivery of canal water to the practice field. h. Coordinate irrigation schedule for practice field with Aberdeen Springfield Canal Company. i. Check and prep lawn mowers, tractor and all grounds equipment - repair as needed.
Summer a. Establish lawn mowing schedule. b. Care for and water flowers, plants, shrubs and trees. c. Control weeds by spraying, weed eating, mowing and digging as needed. d. Maintains all ground equipment in good working order. e. Coordinate any student employment for temporary grounds. f. Roto-till sand areas and level out playground area and fill with approved playground material. g. Coordinate with project playground. h. Keep parking areas clean of debris. i. Paint and mark curbs for painting. j. General maintenance of the exterior of the buildings and structures. k. Arrange for maintenance of all bleachers.
Fall a. Special work and care for the football field. Stripe football and soccer fields for games. b. Maintain the concession stand and restrooms on the football field. c. Continue irrigation and mowing of lawns. d. Remove, clean and properly store all grounds equipment. e. Prepare sprinkler system for winter. f. Keep grounds clean of debris and garbage. g. Check and prep school tractor, scraper, mule and loader as well as the snowblower. h. Order ice melt after potato harvest. i. Fill ice melt containers in all custodial closets.
Winter: a. Keep sidewalks and asphalt free of snow and ice. b. Maintain all winter equipment. c. Maintain spring/summer/fall equipment. d. Coordinate temporary help for snow removal. e. Keep all entrances clear and clean during the wet and muddy seasons.
Other duties assigned by superintendent. a. Maintenance as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits to be established by the Board of Trustees. Normally based on a twelve-month work year or as determined by the superintendent when work is available. This position shall be considered in all respects "employment at will" and the employee is subject to discharge by the District at any time without cause. The "employment period" and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right in the employee and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the District so long as employment continues. An employee working in this position shall at all times be subject to the direction of the person to whom said employee has primary responsibility or said person's designee(s) and at all times shall be held responsible for having knowledge of said school district rules. Regulations and policies that have been reduced to writing and made available to the employee at the building principal's office and the district-wide administration office.
