Job Description


QUALIFICATIONS:	1.	Electrical License, Heating Cooling, and Boiler License
															2.	Training and/or experience in building care and maintenance desired.
															3.	Experience aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
															4.	Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

Relations with Students:

  1. Occasionally performs work in the presence of students.

Relations with Staff:

  1. Coordinates work with principals and teaching staff to avoid interrupting student’s learning time more than necessary.

Parent/Community Relations:

  1. Must have very good public relation skills.

Personal Qualities and Performance:

 1.	At all times be professional in work habits, and have excellent inter-personnel skills.
 2.	All public communications oral or written must be exemplary.
 3. 	Be self-motivated, a self-starter and self-directed to work without close supervision for productivity purposes in a teamwork environment. 


  1. Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, fixtures, wiring, air-conditioning and refrigeration units, and similar electric elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district.

  2. Determines which repair jobs may be performed by custodians, and maintenance workers on the staff and which must be performed by outside contracts.

  3. Performs/Supervises all electrical repair work.

  4. Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on proper procedure and proper use of tools in electrical repair work.

  5. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and supplies.

  6. Estimates costs of electrical repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead.

  7. Performs/Supervises the installation of operation of all lighting and electrical sound equipment in auditoriums and gymnasiums for all special theatrical, athletic, or other performance events.

  8. Examines district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance.

  9. Reports to work by 7:00 am.

  10. Determine priorities considering emergencies, meeting schedules, maintaining order and cleanliness, time of day and completing the objective.

  11. Be aware of maintenance budget to maintain proper purchases.

  12. Checks Schools for heating and cooling problems.

  13. Check and sets all time clocks, fans, and lights.

  14. Regulates and maintains heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.

  15. Reports major repairs that need servicing from outside vendors promptly to the Superintendent.

  16. Maintains on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.

  17. Maintains a daily/weekly/monthly job schedule.

  18. Reports any damage to school property, and any emergencies that might occur and reports immediately to the appropriate Building Principal and Superintendent.

  19. Keeps an inventory of supplies, and equipment. Requisitions needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the maintenance in his/her duties.

  20. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair. i.e. roof, plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling, and building structure.

  21. Makes building and mechanical repairs as necessary.

  22. Other duties as assigned by District Superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits to be established by the Board of Trustees. Normally based on a twelve-month work year or as determined by the superintendent when work is available. This position shall be considered in all respects "employment at will" and the employee is subject to discharge by the District at any time without cause. The "employment period" and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right in the employee and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the District so long as employment continues. An employee working in this position shall at all times be subject to the direction of the person to whom said employee has primary responsibility or said person's designee(s) and at all times shall be held responsible for having knowledge of said school district rules. Regulations and policies that have been reduced to writing and made available to the employee at the building principal's office and the district-wide administration office.

Education Required
  • Electrical License and or HVAC Certificate

Experience Required
  • Experience in building care and maintenance

Skills Required
  • Prefer either an Electrical License, HVAC Certificate, and or Boiler experience
