Job Description

The American Heritage Charter School seeks a positive, team-oriented Special Education paraprofessional. Located on the west side of Idaho Falls, American Heritage offers a free, rigorous and patriotic education in a friendly, small, and rural school setting.

Essential Job Duties -Works with students who need reinforcement on their academic, social, and behavioral goals. -Helps administer, record, and score results from achievement and diagnostic tests and other pertinent data in an accurate, efficient manner. -Helps compile and maintain reports and files regarding student performance. -Assists with lesson plans and instructional materials adapted to the needs of the students. Instructs and tutors students to reinforce and remedied basic skills in reading, math and/or language arts as determined by the Special Education teacher. -Confers and closely works with teachers. -Participates in meetings, conferences, workshops, etc., as requested by the Principal or Special Education Director. -Systematically involves parents in the program. Keeps parents informed of their students progress. -Maintains a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning. -Deals with students, parents and staff in a positive encouraging manner. -Knows and follows school policy and chain of command. -Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment. -Performs such duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form, and effective writing and verbal communication skills. -Ability to assist students with middle school/high school math skills including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry, and basic math skills.

  • Ability to apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g. Word, Excel). -Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. -Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs. -Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. -Ability to go up and down stairs, be on your feet for extended periods of time, and lift up to 30 lbs.

Qualifications Profile: High school diploma or equivalent 2 years of college (32 credits) or Ability to pass the paraprofessional praxis.
