Coordinate high school student athletics and related activities at the middle school.Schedule middle school athletic events; prepare master game management calendar.Supervise and/or arrange for supervision of school-sponsored events; coordinate and plan for use of fields and facilities; schedule officials, secure game workers, referees, etc., for events.Arrange for supervision with administrators for "away" athletic contests; arrange transportation.Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns arising between coaches, staff, students, parents and athletic programs.Promote and foster student participation in middle school sports, activities, and events.Oversee a wide variety of athletic activities; coordinate with administrators; enforce rules and regulations.Determine coaching needs in building; recruit, interview, and recommend the hiring coaches for all sports as needed; meet with coaches to discuss concerns and resolve problems.Administer middle school sports athletics budgets; approve expenditures; account for purchase, use, storage and inventory of athletic equipment.Assist coaches in determining equipment and supply needs; assist with ordering of equipment and supplies.Supervise, collect and maintain a file of student eligibility for sports and activities; interpret eligibility regulations; ensure adherence to all sports eligibility requirements.Maintain liaison with coaches; maintain current knowledge of practices, trends, issues, directions, rules and regulations governing school athletics and activities; enforce league and State regulations.Responsible for recommending and implementing changes to ensure safe practices and participation in District athletic activity.Encourages and instructs athletes, students, and fans in good sportsmanship.Ensures all coaches and volunteers are properly screened, fingerprinted, and trained in concussion prevention, first-aid and CPRSchedule varies depending on sports' schedules. Expected to attend/supervise evening and/or weekend athletic events.

Skills required

Knowledge of laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing student athletics; student safety issues and instruction in sports; fund-raising. Knowledge of relevant Federal and State education laws to maintain IDEA Section 504 and FERPA compliance. Knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the designated sports. Skill in designated sport and effective coaching techniques. Ability to use District technology. Ability to report to work punctually and on a regular basis; ability to work independently/without supervision. Ability to adapt to change and continuously ascertain new knowledge and skills. Ability to maintain self-motivation and a positive attitude. Ability to work in a professional and friendly manner. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, tenants, building users, and the general public.Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions, furnished in a variety of formats, not limited to safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Knowledge of basic math skills including the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of multiple units of measure. Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all District policy and procedures, Board of Education policies, and applicable laws.
