JOB TITLE:            School Bus Technician
REPORTS TO:     Lead Technician and Transportation Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:    Performs Duties to Maintain a Safe and Efficient Transportation System Within the Requirements of the State of Idaho Transportation Manual. Maintain the District’s Fleet of School Buses in a High State of Operational Readiness to Help Prevent Interruptions to the Educational Program.
 
MINIMUM STARTING SALARY: $26.00 per hr
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Literacy in the English language.
Minimum of two years mechanic experience.
Two or more years experience in repairs of school buses or medium-duty trucks.
Valid State of Idaho CDL with airbrake, passenger, and school bus endorsements or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Must have excellent driving record.
Able to pass DOT physical and drug and alcohol testing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs diagnosis troubleshooting and repairs on school buses.
Performs repairs to include replacing major assemblies as needed.
Performs preventative maintenance and annual safety inspections.
Perform roadside repairs or recovery operations as needed.
Ability to lift heavy objects.
Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and troubleshooting guides.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to operate various shop tools and equipment as required.
Maintain records of all maintenance and repair work.
Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
Complies with all Federal, State and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines.
Complies with Federal, State and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of hazardous waste.
Stays current with knowledge in school bus mechanics, and attends annual technician workshops.
Communicates with parents, staff, and community in a positive, courteous, encouraging manner.
Knows and follows school policy and chain of command.
Prepares vehicles for seasonal travel.
Drives bus as needed.
Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
Performs such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or her/his designee.
Must have a complete basic hand tool set and tool chest/box that can be secured.

All non-certificated staff not under contract are under “at-will employment”. Their positions shall be considered in all respects “employment at will” and the employee is subject to discharge by the district at any time without cause. The “employment period” and other descriptions and terms set forth in their job descriptions shall not create a property right in the employee and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as employment continues.
The employment period shall be for twelve (12) months with vacations as specified by district rules and regulations.  The salary shall be determined by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Trustees.
