QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho State Board of Nursing license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
Idaho State Department of Education Pupil Personnel Certificate, School Nurse Endorsement.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certificate.

JOB GOAL 
To strengthen and facilitate the educational process as a knowledgeable and professional healthcare consultant.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Promote health and safety, adhering to laws, policies, Vallivue procedural guidelines and ethical standards.
Monitor immunizations.
Oversee maintenance of school health records as directed by policy.
Develop health care procedures and protocols.
Promote infection control measures.
Provide health education and anticipatory guidance.
Manage communicable diseases per guidance from state and/or federal infection control agencies.
Provide a Health Services representative to participate in committees, as needed.
GENERAL POPULATION (Students and Staff)
Serve as a healthcare consultant in the school to meet student health needs.
Provide health-related education and consultation to students and staff in individual and group settings. 
Train designated staff members on Vallivue School District healthcare protocols.
Manage vision and hearing screenings per district policy and on a referral basis.
Oversee student health care for acute illness and/or injuries.
HEALTH CONDITIONS (General and Special Education)
Provide consultative and/or case management services for students with special needs using professional nursing judgment.
Develop health care plans and interventions based on individual student need, for actual and potential health problems, to guide the response of unlicensed assistive personnel.
Serve as liaison between home, health care providers, school and community resources. 
Utilize medical orders, when provided, to guide student health care at school.
Train designated staff members to administer medication to students. 
Manage medications according to District policy.
Utilize state law, professional practice guidance, and the Idaho State Board of Nursing Administrative Rules when developing care plans. 
Follow Medicaid guidelines for Personal Care Services.
Train designated staff to provide care as outlined in the individualized health care plan.
Provide direct nursing care that cannot be assigned to unlicensed assistive personnel. 
Communicate with families referral information and encourage follow-up as needed with health care providers and/or community agencies.
COLLABORATION
Professional collaboration.
Collaborate with district nurses to create continuity throughout Vallivue School District.
Serve as a health consultant on educational teams. 
Coordinate communication between the health care providers, family, and school.
Pursue professional development to facilitate best practice standards for the care of students. 
OTHER 
High School nurse assignment may include teaching requirements for Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) courses.
May take on additional roles as needed to meet the needs of the school community.
